In a remarkable achievement that brings pride to the College of Information Technology and Computer Science (CITCS), student Exequiel Yuri Garcia secured third place at the prestigious Asia Pacific, Japan, and China (APJC) NetAcad Riders competition of the Cisco Networking Academy. The virtual event, held on May 11, 2023, showcased the talents of budding networking professionals from across the region.
The APJC NetAcad Riders competition is an interactive networking skills contest organized by Cisco. Aimed at enhancing classroom learning and uniting students from various countries, the competition promotes advanced technology education and training. Participants engage in a series of online exams and simulation activities using Cisco Packet Tracer, a powerful network simulation tool that allows users to experiment with network behavior and troubleshoot issues.
The competition unfolded over two challenging rounds. The first round took place virtually via Cisco Webex on April 11, 2023. Competitors were tasked with answering 75 multiple-choice questions within a tight 90-minute window. Demonstrating exceptional knowledge and quick thinking, Garcia emerged as one of the top three scorers in the Philippines, earning the opportunity to represent his country in the next stage.
Advancing to the second round on May 11, 2023, Garcia faced off against other top performers in a rigorous Packet Tracer activity, also conducted virtually via Cisco Webex. This round required participants to apply their theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios, configuring and troubleshooting complex network setups within 90 minutes. Garcia’s adept handling of the simulation not only showcased his technical prowess but also his ability to perform under pressure.
Garcia’s success is a testament to his dedication and the quality of education provided by CITCS. His accomplishment serves as an inspiration to his peers, highlighting the importance of combining theoretical studies with practical application. It also underscores the value of participating in extracurricular competitions to enhance one’s skills and career prospects.
The APJC NetAcad Riders competition plays a significant role in preparing students for future careers in technology. By presenting real-world challenges, it helps bridge the gap between academic learning and industry demands. Students gain valuable experience that can set them apart in the competitive field of Information Technology and networking.
