Students from the College of Information Technology and Computer Science (CITCS) at the University of the Cordilleras (UC) Legarda Campus engaged in a comprehensive evaluation process conducted by the Technology Business Incubator (TBI) Office from October 16 to 21. The week-long assessment aimed to scrutinize the feasibility, sustainability, and desirability of projects developed by students enrolled in Capstone Project 1 and Thesis Writing 1 courses.
The participants presented the results of their design thinking processes and business model canvases to a panel of assessors from the TBI Office. The assessment focused on several critical criteria, including problem formulation, impact factor, sustainability, qualifications, and presentation skills. This thorough evaluation is designed to ensure that student projects are not only academically sound but also viable in real-world applications.
“The TBI assessment is an integral part of our curriculum that bridges academic concepts with practical industry requirements,” said Dr. Natividad B. Concepcion, CITCS Computer Science Program Chair. “It prepares our students to think critically about the marketability and sustainability of their technological solutions.”
Students showcased a diverse array of innovative projects addressing current challenges in technology and society. “Presenting to the TBI assessors was a rigorous yet enlightening experience,” shared Tyraxl Sabino, a graduating CITCS student. “Their insights on sustainability and impact have given us a new perspective on how to refine our project to meet real-world needs.”
The TBI Office plays a crucial role in nurturing entrepreneurial skills among students by providing guidance on transforming academic projects into viable business ventures. The assessment emphasizes the importance of sustainability and long-term impact, encouraging students to develop solutions that can withstand market challenges.
“We assess each project thoroughly to identify its strengths and areas for improvement,” explained Dana Ysabelle B. Salvador, one of the TBI assessors. “Our goal is to mentor these young innovators so they can contribute meaningfully to the tech industry.”
The week-long activity not only evaluated the students’ current work but also served as a learning platform. The UC Legarda Campus was abuzz with enthusiasm as students engaged in discussions and collaborative learning. The intensive assessment process fostered a spirit of innovation and highlighted the university’s adherence to producing industry-ready graduates.
The successful completion of the TBI assessment marks a significant milestone for the CITCS students as they move forward in developing their capstone and thesis projects. The feedback and scores received will be instrumental in shaping the final outcomes of their work.
As the students refine their projects based on the TBI’s evaluations, the CITCS community eagerly anticipates the innovative solutions they will bring forth, potentially contributing to technological advancements both locally and beyond.
