In a significant move to adapt to the evolving demands of the digital age, the College of Information Technology and Computer Science (CITCS) of the University of the Cordilleras (UC) announced the launch of its new Bachelor of Multimedia Arts (BMMA) program. The announcement was made online on June 20, 2023, signaling the university’s commitment to providing cutting-edge education in the realm of multimedia and graphic design.
The BMMA program aims to equip students with comprehensive knowledge and skills in various multimedia platforms and tools—a necessity in today’s technology-driven world. As the internet and traditional media continue to converge, proficiency in visual, audio, video, and interactive arts has become increasingly vital. The program addresses this need by offering a curriculum that blends traditional artistic principles with modern digital techniques.
Graphic design forms a core component of the program, recognizing the role of graphic artists as integral members of modern businesses. These professionals craft the posters, banners, and visual content that companies use to advertise products and services, aiming to captivate an ever-growing online audience with unique and engaging designs. The program emphasizes the importance of design principles to help future graphic designers and marketers capture and retain user attention in a crowded digital space.
The BMMA program of UC-CITCS includes an elective of game design—a field that has seen exponential growth and relevance. The curriculum delves into the creation of interactive experiences that combine visual artistry, sound engineering, and user interaction. Beyond entertainment, games are increasingly used for educational purposes, research, training simulations, and even medical therapies. The program prepares students to enter the game development industry, a sector known for its collaborative environment where various multimedia experts unite to produce complex and immersive experiences.
The program covers fundamental skills necessary for both traditional and digital graphics creation, utilizing specialized hardware and software. Courses include drawing techniques, design principles, color theory, as well as 2D and 3D modeling and animation. Students will also explore key concepts in game design, such as character development, level creation, and sound design. To ensure practical application of learned skills, the program includes both a Capstone Project and an Internship Project, providing real-world experience before graduation.
By introducing the BMMA program, the University of the Cordilleras positions itself at the forefront of multimedia education in the region. The program is expected to attract creative individuals eager to make their mark in fields that demand a blend of artistic talent and technological proficiency.
Enrollment for the Bachelor of Multimedia Arts program is now open. Interested students are encouraged to visit the UC-CITCS website or contact the admissions office for more information on application requirements and deadlines.
“Our goal is to nurture the next generation of multimedia artists who will shape the future of digital content and interactive media,” stated by Dr. Jeffrey S. Ingosan, Dean of the CITCS “We are excited to see the innovative ideas and projects that our future students will bring to life.”
With the launch of this program, UC-CITCS reaffirms its dedication to adapting education to meet the needs of a rapidly changing digital landscape, preparing students not just for jobs of today, but for the careers of tomorrow.
