Baguio City, Philippines – September 26, 2025 — Students from the University of the Cordilleras – College of Information Technology and Computer Science (UC CITCS) actively participated in the inaugural Intercollegiate Intellectual Property (IP) Quiz, organized by the UC Innovation and Technology Transfer Office (InTTO) on September 24, 2025, at the UC Legarda Campus.
The event aimed to enhance students’ awareness and understanding of intellectual property rights, highlighting the vital role of IP protection in promoting innovation, creativity, and academic integrity.
A total of 13 participants from six colleges took part in the competition: the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), College of Business Administration (CBA), College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE), College of Information Technology and Computer Science (CITCS), College of Accountancy (COA), and College of Teacher Education (CTE). Their participation demonstrated UC’s strong commitment to intellectual property literacy and its dedication to cultivating a culture of innovation across academic disciplines.
Representing CITCS were Alihakim M. Dimacaling, John Reniel D. Cruz, and Francis Carlo C. Del Campo, who showcased their knowledge of intellectual property laws and principles alongside participants from other UC colleges.

This pioneering event marked a significant step in UC’s ongoing efforts to embed intellectual property education in its academic and research initiatives, reinforcing the university’s mission to develop innovative, responsible, and industry-ready graduates.
SDG Alignment
This activity supports Sustainable Development Goal 4, Quality Education, particularly Target 4.7, which promotes education for sustainable development, innovation, and responsible citizenship. The Intercollegiate IP Quiz strengthened students’ understanding of intellectual property rights, ethical scholarship, and innovation management within higher education.
The initiative also aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 9, Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, specifically Target 9.5, which emphasizes enhancing scientific research and technological capabilities. By promoting intellectual property awareness, the activity contributes to strengthening innovation ecosystems and protecting research outputs.
Additionally, the event advances Sustainable Development Goal 17, Partnerships for the Goals, aligned with Target 17.17, by fostering collaboration among academic units and institutional offices to promote shared learning, innovation culture, and capacity building.
